Tuners for new guitar
Hey all, getting a new guitar built. Right now I'm just wondering which tuners to get. I'm trying to keep it somewhat midranged, around the 100-200 range. Unfortunately, because I'm getting a 7 string, the luthier told me I'd have to order two sets of the same thing of tuners.

Anyways, I'm deciding between Schaller and Gotoh tuners right now, any suggestions you guys have?

i like schaller's personaly. you can get the schallers in the 3 on a plate kind or individual machines. in my opinion sealed gears are less of a headache than open gears but thats just me

if you wanna go all out waverly makes some sexy machines. ive got waverlys on a few of my custom ovation/adamas guitars

For affordable, traditional tuners, I like Schaller (in Hauser style).  To go really all out, look into Rodgers.

I remember you mentioning this commission a while back.  Will you use Russian tuning or typical E-to-e' 6-string tuning with an added bass?

In the $200 range, Gilberts. And you can get them as individual keys so 7 strings is not a problem. If the looks of them become bothersome i.e. industrial, clunky etc. don't fret, just match them up to a modern build and all will be well.
