Aldo Lagrutta "The Paganini of the Guitar"
Aldo Lagrutta "The Paganini of the Guitar"
Tuesday, 6 November, 2007
“When a musician becomes a professor of the concert guitar at age 17 and when this sheer unbelievable feat is emphasized once and over again through concert advertisements, clearly this musician must cope with the highest demands made upon the genre. The Italian guitarist, Aldo Lagrutta has lived for many years with this singular distinction which demands from him top performance and for which he consistently delivers.” Neuer Tag, Germany
Aldo Lagrutta – the son of an Italian businessman received his first guitar at age 15. Under the tutelage of Leopoldo Igarza the instrument awoke such devotion that he lost himself totally in its study thus enabling him to complete the nine year conservatory curriculum in just three. At 17 he earned the title „Professor Ejecutante“ and became the youngest Professor in the history of Venezuela to be appointed to the faculty of the National Conservatory of Music in Caracas. Thereafter Aldo coached extensively with the world renowned composer Antonio Lauro who had this to say of the young guitarist „To my understanding Aldo can only be described as a genius. Not only is his memory formidable, his technique limitless but his interpretation of my compositions truly surpasses in beauty and character even my own conception.“
Earning a top medal in the Alirio Diaz International competition as well as 1st Prize in the competition of the MTNA, USA (Music Teachers National Association), propelled Aldo Lagrutta into an active concert career on 4 continents in which he has been considered a genius as well as the future of the guitar. Aldo Lagrutta is known as the “Paganini of the Guitar”.. the”Chopin of the Guitar” and his playing is often recognized as comparable to the late Andrés Segovia. However as Lagrutta`s artistry is coming into full bloom, all comparisions are fading away.”His interpreatations are as brilliant as Segovias, only with more feeling, deeper, more human” Darmstädter Echo
The depth of his playing can certainly be attributed to the way in which Aldo Lagrutta approaches life. Through a lifelong dedication to intuitional sciences, he has come to know that art is but a means that can guide us to the truth and not an end in itself. In a recent interview he comments, “My experience is that my playing is at its best when I become so absorbed by the music, the audience too, that I am no longer separated from the event itself and am completely surprised when I find that the concert has come to an end. I believe that when we broaden our inner world through silence, it is then when the true message of the music can shine through unhindered by the restrictions of the small I.“
Today, as a fully certified and licensed trainer of Cybernetic Transposition as well as an ordained Rajadhiraj yoga “Acarya” (meaning one who teaches by example), Aldo Lagrutta encourages others to broaden their own inner and outer worlds through developing the faculities of the mind and cultivating the stillness found in meditation.
It is this art of living and dedication to his craft that has enabled him to “master his instrument as only few masters do” Fürther Nachrichten
