Barrueco: New CD "Sounds of the Americas"

SOUNDS OF THE AMERICAS – A NEW CD BY MANUEL BARRUECO AND CUARTETO LATINOAMERICANO

TIMONIUM, MD (NOVEMBER 25, 2008) TONAR MUSIC© proudly announces the release of a new CD, SOUNDS OF THE AMERICAS, (TONAR 81201) music of Michael Daugherty, Gabriela Lena Frank, Aaron Jay Kernis and Roberto Sierra for guitar and string quartet, with GRAMMY-nominated musicians: guitarist Manuel Barrueco and Cuarteto Latinoamericano.

SOUNDS OF THE AMERICAS is a musical journey through North and South America, and contains the world-premiere recordings of two works written for the artists: Michael Daugherty’s “Bay of Pigs” and Gabriela Lena Frank’s “Inca Dances.” Other works on the recording are Roberto Sierra’s “Tríptico” and “100 Greatest Dance Hits” by Aaron Jay Kernis.

Says Barrueco about the new recording:
“SOUNDS OF THE AMERICAS consists of four works written by some of the most unique and widely-performed composers in the United States today. The works are based on subject matters born in the Americas: Sierra describes a tropical night in his native Puerto Rico, and Frank muses about the Inca Empire’s kings and rituals. Kernis pays tribute to the TV Dance Shows of the 60s and 70s, while Daugherty turns to rock and roll songs such as Jimi Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary” to write an elegy for Cuba, past and present.”

This is the third CD released under the exclusive Manuel Barrueco Collection on Tonar Music©.
