Katalin Koltai
was born in Budapest in 1982. She began her guitar studies at the age of 8. After finishing music school, she continued her studies in Bartók Béla Conservatory in Budapest, graduating in 2000 as a student of Sándor Szilvágyi. Between 2000 and 2002 she studied with Ede Roth.
Between 2004 and 2005 she studied in the Royal Conservatory of Bruxelles with Antigoni Goni.
In 2002 she entered the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Budapest, where she graduated in 2007 as a classical guitar soloist in the class of József Eötvös.
Katalin Koltai gave several solo and chamber music concerts in Hungary (Budapest, Győr, Pécs, Szeged) as well as in Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Latvia, Finland and Spain.
In 2000 she got the IIIrd Prize at the International Guitar Competition of Esztergom, in 2001 Special Prize at the Guitar Competition of Debrecen.
In 2003 and 2004 she was the only invited guitarist to Thy Chamber Music Festival in Denmark. In 2005 she received a scholarship of the music festival (Festival Interpretation of Spanish Song) in Granada, Spain.
In the spring of 2006 she hold a masterclass and gave two solo recitals in Riga, Latvia. In the summer of 2006 her flute-guitar duo with Noémi Győri participated on the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and Masterclass, holding the ACE scholarship.
Besides playing solo repertoire, Katalin Koltai plays very frequently chamber music with different combinations of instruments. The year 2006/2007 she gave several concerts with Éva Bodrogi, soprano singer.
She is also active in the performance and comissioning of contemporary music; she has given numerous first performances, and has recieved many dedications.
