Marin, Anthonio
Marin, Anthonio
Saturday, 11 February, 2006
The eldest of the three reknowned Marins was born in Januari 1933 and, like numerous other luthiers, started his career as a cabinet maker at a young age. This enabled the young Antonio to acquire extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of working with wood. It was Eduardo Ferrer, a well-known guitar builder and friend of the family’s, who introduced him to the luthier’s art. After serving as an apprentice, initially and briefly to Ferrer and then for some years to his colleague Manuel Bellido, Antonio Marin opened a workshop of his own.
Step by step, Antonio Marin gradually modified the construction of the guitar, spurred by a continual exchange of information and ideas with Manuel Contreras and Robert Boucher. Antonio builds from the heart - and building guitars is his life. At an age when most people have eagerly taken to retirement, Antonio Marin will continue to work on his instruments, as long his body allows him to. Antonio Marin’s guitars are notable for their distinct warmth. Yet despite the unmistakable sonic colour of their own, these are highly dynamic instruments, putting a plethora of sounds within players’ reach.
