Born in Jerusalem, Israel, Mia was the 2009 top prize winner of the Guitar Gems Competition in Natanya, Israel, as well as the second prize winner at the 38th Fernando Sor International Guitar Competition in Rome, Italy. In previous years she was a finalist and prize winner at the Appalachian GuitarFest Competition, National Guitar Workshop Competition, as well as the winner of the “Best Interpretation of a Composition by Sor” in Rome, Italy 2007.
Her playing has been described as “powerful… beautiful, rich in harmony and with a sure, clean technique..."
Mia began her music studies at an early age with Irit Even-Tov at the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem. At 14, Mia was awarded the Keren Sharett American-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship Prize. She continued her studies in the United States, studying at the prestigious Peabody Conservatory with world-renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco, was his assistant for two years and was awarded scholarships throughout her Bachelor's and Master of Music Degrees, graduating with high honors.
Her recent performances include solo and duo recitals in the USA, Israel, Italy, Panama and Mexico. Mia performs regularly with her husband, guitarist Jorge Amaral as Duo Amaral.
This coming August will record their debut CD album and will be performing and giving master classes at the International Guitar Festival in Jarocin, Poland, after which they will travel to Tel Aviv to open the international music festival at the Blumenthal Music Center.
