Sato, Kazuo (b. 1946 Japan)
Sato, Kazuo (b. 1946 Japan)
Wednesday, 17 June, 2009
Kazuo Sato was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1946. In 1965 he apprenticed and was employed in the workshop of Master Kuniharu Nobe. In 1971 he began work in David Rubio's legendary workshop in Oxford, England where he crafted a number of impressive sounding instruments under the Rubio label imprint, "KS." In 1974 he established his own workshop in Hekelgem, Belgium. In 1976 he moved to Germany (Illingen/Saar, since 1987 Saarlouis), where he continues to create his art guitars.
This master's powerful grand concert guitars feature strong fundamental tones, rich clear well controlled overtones, wonderful depth and excellent color and balance. As one would expect to find in such a master's signature work, Sato's magnificent sound is complimented by beautiful old materials, immaculate workmanship, and elegant understated visual aesthetics.

"
For many years I have been playing Kazuo Sato's guitars because of their open timbre which enables playing in any style. A wide spectrum of colours and an impressively unfolding sound support the player ideally in concert halls.
